RE: Volunteers

My wife and I have been volunteer park hosts for the Oregon state park system, San Luis Obispo County park system and this year, the California State park system. Oregon requires 20 hrs per week for a couple or, 30 hrs for a single person. San Luis Obispo county is 20 hrs per week and California is 20 hrs per week. These are all non paid positions but you get your hookups for free. The bottom line is, they all save a lot of money by using volunteers and they treat you well.

RE: FIFTH WHEEL QUALITY

Cross your fingers and buy what floor plan you like. No matter how nice it looks, there is no quality.

RE: Black Tank Misreading!

After 2 winters of spending 5 to 6 months in our fifth wheel, I have accepted the fact that my sensors are going to get gummed up. I drain once a week, run my flusher unit for 30 minutes. The gauge will still show 2/3 full even though I know it is empty. I then add about 5 gallons of water and do it all again the next week.
When we get ready to head back home, I drain and then fill the tank to what I think is about 2/3 full. After we travel to our first stop on the way home, I drain again and the tank shows empty!!! A miracle!
I guess the way the highways are today, it beats the water around pretty good and cleans the sensors up. It's worked that way for 2 years in a row now. I no longer get stressed out about my tanks level readings.

RE: Best route up the Columbia from Vancouver, WA

Having lived in Vancouver, WA as well as The Dalles, OR, I would definitly take Highway 14. Much more beautiful because you are well above the river most of time. On I84, you're basically at river level.
I would cross back over to I84 on The Dalles bridge and go east from there.
Have fun!

Paso Robles to Vacaville

I need to travel from Paso Robles, CA to Vacaville. I was going to go 46/41 to I5 and then north. What if i went 101 all the way. Would I fight more traffic and congestion?
Help!

RE: Hey Firedude...

This past Tuesday, Mar 11, the wife and I were just getting onto highway 101 South from the Santa Margartia on ramp when we saw a very nice motorhome with smoke coming out of the diesel engine compartment. There were already 2 or 3 other motorists stopped and we helped get the tow vehicle unlatched and pushed away from the coach. There were probably 4 or 5 fire extinguishers emptied on the fire but it did no good. Within 5 minutes the entire rear end of the coach was engulfed in flames. To make a long story short, they lost the entire unit by the time the fire department got there.
It is a real eye-opener when you see in person how fast it goes.
Don't know how it started, but it was in the engine compartment. The driver said he just happened to see smoke out his side view mirror.
No one hurt, thank God.

RE: Is It The Cat?

She has had the allergies at home but it is about 3000 sq ft. We have been camp hosting for 5 months now, one month to go.
She has tried everything but no help yet.

Is It The Cat?

Is it the cat my wife is allergic to. The longer we are in our RV, the worse her itching becomes. She is taking Zrytec but it doesn't help a lot. Now she wonders if it is the trailer components that is getting to her.
We are trying to find a home for our cat but so far no luck.
Any ideas?

RE: Big Horn, Everest, or Cedar Creek

Don't get an Everest. Poorly made and total lack of quality control. I should know. I bought ours new 2 years ago and nothing but one problem after another.

RE: Forest River,Keystone,Heartland in the winter

In our Keystone Everest, I swear the temperature inside goes down 2 degrees for every one degree drop outside. Not suited for winter, that's for sure.

Camp Host Wanted In Central California

Volunteer Camp Hosts needed at Santa Margarita Lake.
This is located in Central California off of Highway 101 halfway between San Luis Obispo and Paso Robles.
Hosts greet park visitors, provide information, take reservations and operate the entry station. Work 20 hours a week.
Stay in a full hook-up site with all utilities paid.
My wife and I have been here since late October and are leaving the end of March. It is a campground/fishing destination run by the County of San Luis Obispo. Very beautiful, the rangers are great to work with and we hope to come back again.

RE: Electrical Issue

Good luck. Everest by Keystone means they probably screwed it up when it was built.
I just wonder when this will happen to mine.

Holes Drilled In My Slides???

I swear. I think Keystone must have drilled many tiny holes in my slide roofs. Every time it rains I find a new leak where the transition tape meets the roof. I've ranted about this lousy product before but it's my own fault for buying the thing without doing a better job of researching the history.
It's a 2 year old Everest and has been nothing but problems. Can't wait to get home and start shopping for something of quality. Will have to pay more, but that's ok.

Odor from bathroom sink

Getting a terrible odor from bathroom sink. I have added some solution to the grey water tank but it only seems to help as long as some of the solution remains in the p-trap under the sink, and then, the odor is back. Would it help to sanitize the system with bleach or is that to harsh?
Any ideas welcome.

RE: Montana Vs Everest?

Ok. Everest quality is non-existent. One month after purchase of my unit new, the water tank shifted substantially. Operator error? NOT.
After a week of on and off rain, the living room slide began leaking at various spots along the entire length. Operator error? NOT. The local dealer told me it was a common problem with Everest. Last October my water tank fell out while going 60mph on a freeway. Operator error? NOT.
Someone on a previous post talked about how well the Everest was insulated. I don't think so unless you consider the thin layer of bubble wrap under the floor insulation.
The Montana and the Everest may both be built by Keystone, but if they are the same, as someone else said, why is the Montana warrantied for full time livin but the Everest is not.
My wife and I are trying to figure out a way to rid of this beast and get something better.
I will admit it's my own fault for falling sucker the cosmetics rather than quality.

RE: Wood Burning Stove In RV?

Thanks for all the responses. The RV I am considering this in is a 1979 Prowler 35' Trailer with an open floor plan. A proper hearth is essential. Thanks for the info on the 3 walled stove pipe.
I am from the mountains and we had fires all the time. I loved our old wood burning stove. I am a permanent resident in my RV and it will not be moving it until someone else hauls it away. I will try and post pictures if all goes well. Thanks again!

Wood Burning Stove In RV?

Friend of mine asked if it would be possible to put a wood burning stove in an RV. Told him I never heard of it. Maybe someone here would know something.
Also told him between burning down his RV or croaking from carbon monoxide poisoning, it sounds like a hard way to heat the RV.
